Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey and his Youth MP Holly Fletcher are hitting the streets this month with a series of roadshows to capture the voices of Waimakariri’s youth.
“Youth Parliament is being held in July and Holly and I want to ensure that all our young people get a chance to get their views into Youth Parliament. Whether it’s something they think we could be doing better or fresh ideas they would like to see implemented, we want to hear about it,” Doocey said.
The roadshows are being held in Oxford on Saturday 13 February at 10am (Under the Oaks Café); Rangiora on Saturday 13 February at 3pm (Rangiora Coffee Culture); Kaiapoi on Saturday 27 February at 10am (Kaiapoi Coffee Culture); and Northwood on Saturday 27 February at 3pm (Redwood Coffee Culture).
Holly (16), a student at Rangiora High School, has a background in community work, sports and public speaking. She said she was looking forward to being a representative of Waimakariri’s young people and had a lot of ideas she wanted to take to Wellington.
“Holly is very articulate and is well-connected to the young people of Waimakariri, so the roadshows are going to be exciting in terms of the ideas that we expect our young people to bring forward,” Doocey said.
