Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey has welcomed a $10,000 funding announcement for Waimakariri District Council’s Youth Council Focus Youth Leadership Project.
The funding was announced this week under the Local Government Youth Project Fund 2017. Sixteen councils throughout New Zealand were awarded a total amount of $231,400.
Doocey, who sponsored the Waimakariri category of the 2016 Canterbury Youth Awards, said Waimakariri’s young people were a great asset to their community. “I keep connected to our Youth Council and am always impressed by their passion for ensuring Waimak’s youth voice is heard by our decision-makers.
“This funding will upskill our Youth Council members and build on their confidence to best represent and advocate for our young people, and be a strong voice for our community,” Doocey said.
