Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey is urging Waimakariri residents to practise how to Drop, Cover and Hold ahead of New Zealand’s national earthquake drill on Thursday October 15 at 9.15am.
Doocey said he would be in his office at the time of the drill. “This time is protected in my diary and I and my staff will be joining the rest of New Zealand for our national earthquake drill. The Canterbury earthquake events have made us all realise that knowing how to react in an earthquake could save lives. This is something we need to be teaching our families and our communities.”
With two weeks to go, New Zealand ShakeOut already had one million registrations, Doocey said.
“We are aiming to get 1.5 million New Zealanders to sign up to take part. We’re the first country to participate this year – let’s see if we can make our drill the biggest!”
