Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey welcomes the Innovate New Zealand package announced in the Budget as part of a $761 million investment that focuses on growing our science system, producing the skills New Zealand needs and encouraging innovation and investment in regional New Zealand.
As part of the new package, the Government was backing innovative exciting businesses in New Zealand to grow the economy and $94 million had been specifically provided for regional economic development, Doocey said.
“Local businesses continue to feel confident about their future prospects, if we look at Enterprise North Canterbury’s recently released North Canterbury Business Opinion Survey for April 2016,” Doocey said. “It’s good to see our local businesses reporting increased sales and growing employment.”
“This new $94 million regional development package has come at the right time and will be a welcome boost to local businesses gearing up and looking at ways to innovate and expand,” Doocey said.
“I meet regularly with local economic development agency Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC) and recently arranged for the Prime Minister to open their new office in Kaiapoi. I also visit and meet regularly with business and community leaders to help keep me connected with what is going on in our local economy.”
“I will be discussing this new exciting package with ENC and local businesses to make sure we make the most of these new initiatives that are about backing businesses that are innovative and looking for assistance to help them grow and improve their economic performance”, Doocey said.
