Successful Northern Christchurch businesses showcased their achievements on Friday when Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey brought National’s Trade Spokesperson Todd McClay to meet with them.
“It was great to bring in former Trade minister Todd McClay to Northern Christchurch to talk about trade with companies like the McVicar Timber Group, which exports to several countries around the world,” Doocey said.
A family business with processing plants in New Zealand and Australia, McVicar Timber Group highlighted staff recruitment in Canterbury, with its low unemployment rate, as a challenge in meeting demand for timber products from regions like Asia, Europe and North America, Doocey said.
“It’s about bringing the right representatives to our region to listen to our people, whether it’s business owners wanting to highlight what could be done better or communities that want their voices heard,” Doocey said. “I enjoy showcasing what we do well and giving our people the opportunity to sit down with the relevant policymakers and discuss what they need to continue moving forward.”
