A public debate being organised by Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey on the End of Life Choice Bill, or euthanasia bill, is expected to draw large crowds.
The bill’s sponsor, ACT leader David Seymour, will square off against the Rt Hon Sir Bill English in the Rangiora Town Hall main auditorium on Monday 25 February at 6.30pm.
“A public debate will help our residents understand the intent of the bill and hear from both sides of the debate the proposed legislation in more detail,” Doocey said.
“It's when MPs are working on the ground that we see the impact that larger policy issues have on the daily lives of people and it’s always been part of my commitment as local MP to bring relevant people into the Waimakariri so our residents’ voices can be heard. The public debate will be a unique opportunity for residents to not only hear from the experts but ask questions and air their own views on this significant issue for New Zealanders,” Doocey said.
The End of Life Choice Bill is before Parliament’s Justice Select Committee for consideration before it goes back before the House where MPs will take a conscience vote on the second reading.
