Currently, the Department of Corrections is placing some sex offenders in a community without informing the local school or schools.
My bill seeks to ensure that, when a sex offender is placed in a community, the principals of the local schools are notified of this placement. By receiving notification from the Department of Corrections, local schools will be able to make informed decisions about the risk of the sex offenders placement.
I accept that some sex offenders will need to be managed in the community but as a parent it’s outrageous that local schools are not informed of a sex offenders placement in their community.
By ensuring schools are aware of these situations, it gives them the ability to make informed decisions about what’s best for their students. I believe parents expect this.
