Oxford community represented at Parliament

Residents of Oxford delivered a petition opposing a controversial landfill proposal to Parliament, handing it to Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey on the steps of the Beehive.

Cassandre Walker and Maria Lowe hand delivered the petition to Doocey in Wellington after collecting hundreds of signatures around the small North Canterbury town.

Doocey said as local MP it was an honour to be able to receive the petition in person.

"Local residents Cassandre and Maria are so passionate about protecting Oxford’s environment and water aquifer they travelled to Parliament to hand deliver the petition signed by hundreds of Oxford residents.

"Oxford and the surrounding area prides itself on the natural environment, with popular walking tracks and Department of Conservation land right next to the proposed landfill site, and I share the concerns of the community for the environment if the proposal were to go ahead."
