Despite the rain, my wife Viki and I managed to complete the North Canterbury Relay for Life, walking through the night to raise money for the Cancer Society. With my father-in-law, Viki’s dad, being recently diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer, we wanted to support the great work the Cancer Society undertakes for patients and their families.

Northwood Breakfast Club members enjoyed a lively debate with Finance Minister Steven Joyce ahead of Budget 17. Bringing relevant ministers to the electorate is part of my commitment to ensure residents have opportunities to feed their views to Parliament.  Topics raised included Superannuation, the Budget and New Zealand’s employment rate, now ranking second highest among OECD countries, with 66.7 percent of people over the age of 15 in employment.

Last year’s Keeping Connected Evening Meetings were a great way to engage with those of you who find it difficult to meet with me during business hours. With a young family, I know life can get busy with work and family commitments. This year, I am holding these meetings in May throughout the electorate for us to have a conversation about the issues that are important to you. I would love to meet with you at the Belfast Rugby Football Club on Thursday 18 May from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. There’s no need to RSVP – just turn up and join the discussions.
