Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey is putting out a call for Forstner drill bits to assist the Kaiapoi Menz Shed.

“It’s likely that someone has a set of Forstner drill bits sitting in their garage which they are not using and which could be utilised by the Kaiapoi Menz Shed to benefit the community,” Doocey said.

The MP said he recently visited the Kaiapoi Menz Shed and was impressed by the scope of projects members were undertaking.

“You only have to look around our community to see the valuable work they are doing. From the military crosses for the Kaiapoi RSA to creating stage sets for Kaiapoi High School, they have rolled up their sleeves and tackled the job,” Doocey said.

People might not realise the range of skills that was available through the Menz Shed, Doocey added. “A case in point is where members fixed a telephone with an extension for a pensioner. These are valuable skills that have been made available to our community and anything we can do to support them is welcomed.”
