Waimakariri MP welcomes April 1 changes to help families
Waimakariri families will be better off for a raft of changes effective from 1 April 2016, Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey says.
“The $790 million child hardship package was worked on by the Social Services Select Committee, of which I am Deputy Chair, and I have been working hard on ensuring these changes were delivered on time,” Doocey said.
“Having a young family and as a first-term MP, it was great to be part of a Budget that makes a real difference to New Zealand families.
“The $790 million child hardship package will see the first real rise in benefit rates in 43 years, as well as an increase in Working For Families rates for low-income families,” Doocey said.
“These, along with the reduction in ACC levies, increased paid parental leave and an increase to the minimum wage, will help Waimakariri family budgets go further,” Doocey said.
