Doocey sworn in as Waimakariri MP
“A huge and humbling moment,” is how Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey describes being sworn in as MP for Waimakariri during the Commission Opening of the 51st Parliament on Monday.
The formal opening of Parliament took place this week over Monday and Tuesday, and marks the start of a busy period for MPs as they lead up to Christmas.
Doocey, who delivers his maiden speech in Parliament on Wednesday, said ensuring that families and communities are at the heart of growth and development would be a major and personal focus ahead.
“I want to see mums and dads have access to better jobs and better incomes. I want their children to have a great education so they can achieve what they want in their lives. I want grandparents to enjoy access to great healthcare and security in their retirements and I want families to grow up in safer communities.”
