MP for Waimakariri Matt Doocey says Government is continuing to back local schools.
“I’m proud that this National-led Government is investing more than $276 million from Budget 2016 in Canterbury infrastructure,” Doocey said.
“Here in Waimakariri we will benefit from a new classroom at Swannanoa School. Swannanoa has already had funding approved for two other classrooms.
“Over the last six months the Ministry of Education has been in discussion with schools and I’m pleased Budget 2016 has confirmed funding for this new classroom.”
The investment in infrastructure is made up of:
Around $168 million towards the Christchurch schools rebuild programme.
At least $100 million to build two new schools and deliver two relocated and rebuilt schools under public private partnerships – also as part of the Christchurch rebuild.
Around $8 million for new roll growth classrooms.
“The $8 million funding will enable 21 new classrooms for schools across Canterbury,” Doocey said. “Like other parts of the country we are experiencing population growth and this investment will ensure our schools can meet the needs of current and future students.
“We want to make sure we’re addressing roll growth and providing flexible spaces to support innovative learning environments for our children.”
