Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey has welcomed 28 new, warm homes for rapidly growing Waimakariri as fit for purpose and the community’s needs.
The $8 million investment in Waimakariri is part of a $46.3 million housing package announced by Government today.
“Waimakariri District is now the third largest per population on South Island. This significant boost to our social housing stock supports our growth and is great news for our community,” Doocey said.
Construction on the new homes would start as early as spring on a site that previously housed nine older homes on the corner of High and White streets in Rangiora, and would be modern, fully insulated and energy efficient, Doocey said.
“These one-bedroom homes will be purpose built for our older tenants, close to health services and shops,” the MP said.
“This latest investment to support our community’s growth follows the opening of new classroom spaces in over 10 of our schools this year and increased investment in our health services,” Doocey said.
