Over 500 signatures in the first week for my petition indicates many of our commuters support the idea of a third lane southbound over the Waimak Bridge.
A third lane will ease traffic flow and improve travel times into Christchurch in the morning, when people feel greatest frustration. We are already getting an extra lane northbound as part of the Northern Motorway projects. To get the full benefit of these projects, I believe a third southbound lane should be included in the current works. I understand that doing it now will come at half the price of doing it later.
Next month NZTA will be discussing the issue with the Greater Christchurch Urban Strategy Implementation Committee and I think the voices of Waimak commuters should be included when this important decision is made. If you agree, you can sign my petition at https://issues.national.org.nz/waimakariri-bridge/ or access it via my Facebook page and website.
I enjoyed speaking at the open day for the new Mobile Surgical Bus at Rangiora Health Hub. It’s important for rural communities to have access to public services such as education and healthcare, and the surgical bus is a way of ensuring we have access to first-class healthcare on our doorsteps.
It was great to see further investment into special education needs for North Canterbury residents with the opening of the new Allenvale unit at Ashgrove School. It was an honour to officially open this valuable facility and get a first-hand look at this exciting new learning environment.
The Kaiapoi Community Garden open day was a good opportunity to view their new building and see the great work the volunteers undertake. Not only does the garden provide socialisation and a chance to learn or share knowledge about all things green, it also provides vegetables to our community.
It’s rewarding when people share their passion with their communities. This was evident at the North Canterbury Model Railway Club open weekend, which I was glad to support in aid of their fundraising towards permanent premises. Thanks to the club members for sharing their enthusiasm.
