Community-led CCTV on radar for Silverstream

Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey says residents of Silverstream in Kaiapoi showed overwhelming support for the roll out of community-led CCTV in their neighbourhood at a recent public meeting.

The call to action follows Doocey's packed public meeting up the road for the Sovereign Palms and Moorcroft subdivisions two months earlier, where fundraising is already well under way to get their cameras up.

Doocey facilitated the latest meeting after being approached by a Silverstream resident, who had seen progress being made after the Sovereign Palms meeting and was keen to garner community support for a similar project.

"It's great that residents are taking the initiative to make their neighbourhoods safer and help support our local police and community patrol groups," Doocey said.

"Thanks to the local residents who attended the meeting at Urban Revival to hear our speakers from the Council, Community Patrol and Neighbourhood Support.

"There was overwhelming support for the backing of my call to roll out community-led CCTV and I look forward to keeping up with the progress."
