234 first-home buyers in Waimakariri have been helped into their own homes in the first year of Government’s HomeStart scheme, Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey says.
“This equates to a value of $1.3 million,” Doocey said. “Waimakariri is well represented in the number of people who have taken up this offer, with a total of 533 first-home buyers in Canterbury being helped.”
Doocey said effective from July the opportunity for second-chance home buyers will be increased, allowing more mid-life, middle-income New Zealanders who had been through a separation or business failure to get back into home ownership.
“We’ve altered that aspect of the KiwiSaver home-buyer programme around second-chance home buyers to give more New Zealanders a second chance into the housing market through accessing their KiwiSaver funds by removing the income limit,” Doocey said.
“Despite having assets that are small, through separation or business failure, they could still get a second chance.”
